Carithers Flowers Donates Smiles and Flowers to
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

ATLANTA, GEORGIA- Wednesday, May 4th will marked the seventh year local florist Carithers Flowers donates and delivers Mother’s Day floral bouquets to every child at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The holiday program assures that every child admitted to the hospital receives a floral arrangement to give to their mom for Mother’s Day.

Owner, Charles Carithers, began the annual donation two weeks before his own daughter, Katie, was born in May 1998. “As a florist, I come in contact with families as they celebrate life’s most memorable occasions: weddings, birthdays and births, as well as during the most difficult moments – including illness, grief and loss of loved ones. We talk about the “power of flowers” to heal and it’s really true. When the children see the flowers rolling in on carts they just light up. What may have been a scary and difficult week is forgotten as they prepare their flowers for mom.”

Despite the Mother’s Day floral rush at Carithers retail stores, Charles Carithers dedicates three employees and over 2,000 floral stems to the program. This year Carithers is donating over 150 floral designs. “We couldn’t succeed without the hospital’s generous support – the staff is terrific” adds Charles. “The nurses and volunteers help us with delivery and actually assist each child in writing or drawing their cards. It really is a joint effort to bring a little joy to what is often a difficult moment in many families’ lives.”

“We’re often asked by other business people why we would undertake such a large commitment during one of the busiest retail weeks of the year. But when a mom calls you up crying, sharing how her son presented her with a Mothers Day bouquet and the biggest smile she has seen in a month – I remember why I’m in the flower business – that every day and with every floral delivery, I can make a difference.”
